Endless / Marika Cover
New Publication
I’m very excited to share some of my favorite work to date! Marika Magazine published Endless in their April 22 Issue. This fashion editorial was the culmination of a mentorship I did with fashion photography and artist Stacie Buhler. It was shot in Logan, Utah last summer and was chosen to be on their cover of Marika’s April issue. It was announced in this Instagram post and they included a very kind write up, “the cover of the magazine was chosen with the idea of strengthening the concept of fashion: bright, eye-catching, and laconic. That photoshoot stood out from the rest. No doubt it should be in a fashion issue.”
Photo / Video / Set Design
For this shoot I did the set design and styling. I also shot video and photo for it. Stacie brought on the model, hair and makeup artist and wardrobe stylist (see team credits at the end of this post). We shot this in studio in Logan, Utah.
Set Design
In this shoot I really wanted to push my set design work. I painted and decorated a standing wall as a central background. I collected and altered all of the paintings hung there using spray paint and house paint. I also sourced props, chose the paper backdrop, brought in rugs, artificial turf and furniture.
Photo and Video
I captured this shoot primarily with photography, but Stacie also pushed me to include video, and I’m glad she did. See the concept video below and see the full photo gallery here.
Concept and Inspiration
The inspiration behind this fashion editorial was my Grandma’s house. It had some funky outdated furniture, artwork I didn’t get, and card games and activities only a senior could truly love. It took me a long time to come up with a name for this shoot and I finally settled on ENDLESS. My friend Tia suggested this name and it really hit on what I was feeling. I wanted to capture the hours of endless afternoon some of us experience at our grandparent’s house. I wanted to catch the vibe of the leisure that only a retiree can provide. That leisure for me was always straddling the line between vague interest and impending boredom.
I hope you enjoy Endless as much as I enjoyed shooting it! Like all good things, this shoot was a team effort and I was fortunate to work with some extremely talented individuals that helped bring it to life!
